In only three short years Boyd and Silva Martin have made a big impression on the horse world in the United States. The couple relocated from Australia in 2007 and based their business, Windurra USA, out of Phillip and Evie Dutton's True Prospect Farm in West Grove, Pennsylvania.
Boyd, previously short-listed for the Australian Olympic Team, initially worked as Dutton’s assistant trainer while Silva established a successful, independent dressage training business in the upper barn at Dutton’s True Prospect Farm. A licensed riding instructor, or “Bereiter”, from Germany, Silva has become a well sought after dressage instructor for many top dressage riders and eventers at all levels. She currently has a string of talented competition & sales horses including her own Jeff the Chef W, who has been successful on the small tour and is preparing to compete at the Grand Prix level.
Boyd struck out on his own in 2009, moving his horses to the same barn as Silva’s horses at True Prospect, while maintaining a strong working relationship with Dutton. In the spring of 2009, Boyd, who has dual citizenship, received approval from the FEI to compete for the United States. As a member of the US Eventing Team’s “A” training list he has enjoyed the opportunity to take part in team training sessions as he strives to represent the United States at this year’s Alltech World Equestrian Games in Lexington, Kentucky.
Already a winning four-star competitor, Boyd has achieved great competitive success since moving to the United States, not least of all winning the Fair Hill International CCI*** Fall Eventing Championship in 2009 riding Neville Bardos. He also won the Jersey Fresh CIC** aboard Remington XXV in the spring of 2009 and the 2008 Bromont CCI** in Canada aboard Galileo. In 2008 he was the top Foreign Rider at the Rolex Kentucky three-day event and was ranked number two on the US Eventing Association Rider of the Year Leaderboard, and in 2009 he was the USEA Preliminary Rider of the Year.
