Chronicle Article On Acquiring Shamwari 4

An inspiring performance at the 2012 Olympic Games with Swedish rider Ludwig Svennerstal placed Shamwari firmly in Boyd’s sights as an ideal world-class event horse. When the opportunity arose to purchase Shammie in 2014, Boyd’s supporters rallied to form a syndicate and the horse was shipped to Aiken, SC at the beginning of the year.

Though the combination was off to a solid start, things looked uncertain for the 2014 competition season when Boyd broke his leg while competing a young horse in March and was sidelined for a couple of months. With Phillip Dutton in the irons, Shammie stayed in training and competition. While still undergoing physical therapy for his leg, Boyd was able get back in the tack in time to finish 3rd at the Luhmuehlen CCI**** (Germany) in June. Impressing on the US selectors that this was a solid partnership, the pair was selected to compete on the US team at the World Equestrian Games in Normandy, France, where they were the top US horse-rider combination in Eventing.

Shamwari exudes elegance in the dressage, athleticism on cross-country, and impressive scope over show jumps. It is no wonder his fans call him “Shamwow!” While he is an incredible athlete, he is laid-back and good natured, making him a pleasure to work with around the barn. Shamwari is one of the few horses named to the USEF High Performance “World Class” list. He has been an invaluable asset to Boyd’s string and is a very likely candidate for the 2016 Olympic Team.
