We’re here at the Ocala Jockey Club in Ocala, FL for the new event presented by Equiventures. The horses came down on Sunday night and stabled at Chris Turner’s beautiful farm in Ocala. The horses appreciate Florida, trading 40mph winds in Pennsylvania for 70 degrees and a light breeze here. We shifted the horses over to the Jockey Club today after a light cross-country school at Clayton Fredericks’ facility this morning; because the horses haven’t had a run for a good while, I thought it would be wise to pop them through the water and over a couple narrows and corners. This is a brand new competition and it looks like a top-class venue for their first-ever event. The jog is at lunchtime today.

I’m riding three horses this weekend. In the 3* I’ve got Steady Eddie, who’s still on the market, owned by the Wintersteens, Denise Leahy and Pierre Colin. Eddie’s been in sizzling form this year and finished 4th at the Oktoberfest horse trials at Stable View. It’s a high quality field here and we’re chasing a lot of prize money.

In the CCI2* I’m riding Chris Turner’s Kyra, who’s probably one of the best natural jumpers I’ve ever sat on. She’s been in great form since I took over the ride from Michael Pollard earlier this year. At her last start, in Virginia, she ran really well, so I have high hopes for her result this weekend

Santos, owned by Gloria Callen and the Juvonens, is green at the 2* level but, saying that, he’s been having a great year since moving up to the Intermediate level in Aiken earlier this year. I believe he’ll put in a stellar test because I’ve had Silva preparing him for this event.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!
