2016 Rolex Kentucky CCI4* Final Day

That’s another Rolex Kentucky CCI4* in the books, and while I didn’t have quite the result I was hoping for with The Shamwari Syndicate’s Shamwari 4, with three rails down in the show jumping, he had a cracking round yesterday and it’s great to have him back in action after a long rehab from injury after the 2012 WEG. He finished 12th overall in an extremely competitive field of horses, and I’m sure he will be happy to go home to PA and have a well-deserved roll in the mud.

Richard Jeffery built a tough show jumping course and it really took its toll today. The Blackfoot Mystery Syndicate’s Blackfoot Mystery rose to the challenge and in spite of a rail down moved up to 6th place overall. It was our first four-star together and he put in a great effort. My hat goes off to Kelly Prather for all of her hard work with Red before he came to me, and I’m looking forward to great things with this horse. Red was the highest placing Off the Track Thoroughbred and received a beautiful award for his efforts.

Steady Eddie, owned by George and Gretchen Wintersteen and Denise Lahey and Pierre Colin, is an OTTB whom I bought as a scrappy youngster in Australia, and is now an official four-star horse! The conditions were not easy yesterday and he rose to the challenge. I would have liked to get him around clean, but we had an unfortunate run-out at a left-hand corner; but he’s still green at this level and I expect he’ll only get better and better.

Congratulations to the top three finishers: Michael Jung and FISCHERROCANA FST(GER), Lauren Kieffer and VERONICA (USA), and Maya Black and DOESN’T PLAY FAIR (USA).

It was a great weekend, especially with my family visiting from Australia, and so many of our owners and sponsors here supporting the horses and me (and spoiling Nox). Thanks to everyone who helped us achieve these results this weekend, and an especially big thanks to my lovely bride Silva for everything she does behind the scenes.

Now I’m eager to have a crack a the Badminton CCI4* in England riding Lucy Boynton’s Crackerjack. Stay tuned!
