2019 Ocala Jockey Club International Three-Day Event Underway

Mike and Steady Eddie at the 2019 Plantation Field CCI4*-S

Boyd is flying to Florida today for the Ocala Jockey Club International Three-Day Event. Though he’s not riding, he’ll be coaching and occupying a very enthusiastic cheering section.

I’m grateful that Phillip Dutton is riding Long Island T for me at Ocala. I felt it was very important for Ludwig to go around a long-format event this fall to help build him up for next year, and Phillip’s schooled him a few times and done a magnificent job. He most likely won’t ride for time on cross country day as there’s no need to risk injury on Ludwig before next year’s Kentucky Three-Day Event and the Olympic Games selection. I think they’ve clicked straightaway and seem to enjoy each other’s way of going. Like I said before, the Long Island T Syndicate is very grateful for Phillip’s generosity riding Ludwig at this event.

My assistant rider Mike Pendleton will also be taking Steady Eddie to Ocala. He was fortunate to get the ride on Eddie at the beginning of this year and our ultimate goal is to have him ride Eddie next year at Kentucky. With the new qualification rules Mike has to complete two four-star L events to compete at Kentucky next year, so he needs a good run in Ocala. Eddie seems to have come back well after the Fair Hill International last month.

Both horse do dressage on Friday, cross country on Saturday and show jumping on Sunday.
