Whilst down in Aiken my good friend, timber jockey Mark Beecher, spotted a Thoroughbred that was almost too careful for the steeplechase game. Atavism is a young, classy American TB that we have had in work since March. I co-own him with one of my long term supporters, Anne Hennessey, from Vermont.
Last weekend Atavism and I managed to get around our first training level horse trial together.  He definitely has the jump and the gallop of a four-star horse and he has really taken to the eventing. He just seems to be one of those horses that really enjoys his jumping. Our main focus for now is to develop him on the flat, and keep a steady level of confidence as he climbs up the levels.
