Boyd and Silva are Guests of Honor at the Trakehner Verband

Silva and I have just returned home from a whirlwind trip to Germany. We weregraciously invited to the Trakehner Verband in Neumünster, an annual event in northern Germany where all the two-year-old Trakehner stallions come to be judged and licensed as potential breeding stallions as well as an auction for foals, unbroken young horses and riding horses. There was also outstanding entertainment, from Grand Prix dressage to a gala event on Saturday night and a trade fair to top all trade fairs. On Read more...

Luke 140 Schooling Flying Changes

https://youtu.be/ZcDesUg9TpI I am fortunate that my wife Silva is willing to spend time schooling the event horses and fine tuning their dressage skills. At the moment Silva is working with Luke 140, a horse we syndicated earlier this year. Silva’s main goal has been teaching Luke the flying changes. Next year Luke will need to do flying changes in his dressage tests at the 4-Star level. When we purchased him earlier this year, he had not been taught them yet, but sometimes this is better because Read more...

Virginia Horse Trials Preview

One of the final events of the year is starting on Friday at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington, Virginia. Unfortunately Boyd is still sidelined with an injury, so he's leaving his horses in the capable hands of Mike Pendleton and Phillip Dutton, and feeling lucky to have these two in his corner.  Here's Boyd's list of horses and his thoughts on the weekend ahead: Wabanaki - I have been aiming Monty for his first 2 Star - L all year. Message from Boyd: Back in the Saddle Soon

https://youtu.be/fWsRD89YEEQ   https://youtu.be/pdDSGYX5kiI I have been a bit laid up for the past few weeks after my fall on cross country at Plantation Field International. After three weeks of discomfort, I went back to the doctor, got an MRI, and we discovered a fracture in my pelvis. It sounds horrible, but it’s much easier to rehab than a torn groin, which I thought was the injury. I am lucky to have a bunch of very good riders around me keeping the horses going. Silva has Read more...

Shamwari to Retire in Aiken

For some time now, Shamwari 4 has been enjoying the good life at Windurra USA in Pennsylvania, out in my big field with the mighty Neville Bardos and a couple of two year olds. About a month ago I thought Shammie was looking quite bored, so we brought him in and put some shoes on him. I have had my working students hacking him and trail riding him at the walk each day and he looks in good health and is enjoying this very laid back life. Shammie is very lucky, as Syndicate members George and Gretchen Read more...
