Boyd’s 2020 Wellington Showcase Recap

We have arrived home well after a great week of training and competition in Wellington, Florida. To be honest, I am little disappointed with our result in the Wellington Showcase, as I really thought Ludwig was set up to be very competitive.  By saying that, there were a lot a positives to take home from the event and the week's training.   On Wednesday, Ludwig underwent the USEF Elite Squad vet check. This took a couple of hours, and consisted of X-rays, ultrasounds, flexion tests and trot-ups. Read more...

Mike Competing Windurra Horses at Pine Top

This weekend I am down in Wellington having a crack at the Wellington Showcase, so  I have left Big Mike in Aiken with the task of giving a number of the horses their first start for the year. Mike is under instructions to give them a nice gentle outing at their first event. There was a ton of rain today, so the course has been modified slightly, but the show will go on. Please keep an eye on the results on evententries.com. Read more...

Show Jumping at Bruce’s Field and On the Road to Florida

A few of the upper level horses had a show jumping outing at Bruce's Field where Tsetserleg and On Cue competed in the 1.20 jumpers and Ludwig did the 1.30m "Mini Prix". This was a good opportunity some extra mileage in the show jumping arena, with a bit of atmosphere for good measure (and prize money!). We are also looking forward to the $50,000 Grand Prix Eventing Invitational at Bruce's Field on March 1st and 2nd. But first, we are en route to sunny Florida and ready to tackle this weekend's Read more...

Sporting Days February Horse Trials

On Saturday we plan to take a great group of horses to Sporting Days Horse Trials. This event is a nice, ‘no frills’ local horse trials that features a very straightforward cross country course. I usually would not enter my intermediate horses (Barry, Luke & Bonito) here, but I would love to get them through an easy run before I line them up to a bigger task at Pine Top 2 in a few weeks. For Prez, Lulu and Electra, this will be a great event to continue building confidence.  They are all Read more...

Windurra Event Horses Fancy Prancing in Aiken this Weekend

It’s time we see if all of our dressage training this month has paid off! Tomorrow, we plan to take a few of the horses out to the Bruce’s Field for the  2020 Dressage in the Park show. This is a USDF recognized show, so the eventers will really get to test their mettle against the dressage horses. A number of the horses we plan to take will be quite excited and pumped up for their first event for the year, and we will use this show to hopefully get them settled for the upcoming Read more...

In Memory of Stephen Blauner

I first met Steve Blauner in about 2009. I was racing around the countryside teaching clinics in upstate New York and I kept meeting this bloke named Steve and his horse Joey. Steve and Joey were the ultimate match: Steve pointed Joey at anything that looked like a jump, and Joey would always find a way to jump it. They didn’t have much style, but they got the job done. They were awesome together. Usually at these clinics there was a Saturday night dinner and I would always find myself finishing Read more...

Aiken Update: Windurra Eventing Settling in to Stable View for 2020 Season

The new year is a fresh start for the eventing side of Windurra. Like usual I’ve migrated south to Stable View with a team of horses and staff. Because Nox is in full-time preschool this year, Silva will stay in Pennsylvania and move her operations to the comfort of the indoor arena at True Prospect Farm. The idea is Silva will probably ship a couple of the dressage horses down and go to a few shows here, and will fly down here now and then and there to do some coaching and help out with my Read more...

Silva Based at True Prospect Farm for Winter

Silva likes to joke that she is moving south for the winter - about three miles south, to be exact. With Nox in school five days a week now, it is more practical to keep the dressage horses home in Pennsylvania, and with icy winter weather in the forecast, the indoor arena at Phillip and Evie Dutton's True Prospect Farm makes it the ideal winter base. "The horses traveled really well on the big trip south," joked Silva as she longed a frisky Rosa Cha W. "They're all settled in and happy as Read more...
