Boyd and Blackfoot Mystery 3rd after Dressage at Wellington Eventing Showcase

It was a scintillating morning of dressage competition as spectators sipped champagne in the VIP tent and watched the best of the best strut their stuff in Wellington, Florida as the $75,000 Asheville Regional Airport $75,000 Wellington Eventing Showcase kicked off. Boyd and his two horses held their own against a tough field and Blackfoot Mystery, owned by the Blackfoot Mystery Syndicate, scored 30.6 to rank 3rd overall, with Allison Springer and Arthur in the lead on 29.1 and Buck Davidson nipping at her heels with 30.1.  Craig and Gloria Callen’s grey Irish mare Welcome Shadow went early this morning and scored 35.9, which puts them in 20th place going into tomorrow’s jumping phases.

Eric Bull has built a beautiful set of cross country fences with both Wellington and Tryon-themed fences, and everyone is talking about the massive jump into the VIP tent, with a gallop through the middle of luxury dining area to a jump down a ramp into the main arena. With 35 horses total in the running for an impressive purse – made larger thanks to a donation from Wellington Equestrian Properties – nobody’s going to be leaving anything on the table tomorrow (except for patrons’ dinners, we should hope).
