Boyd Martin and Blackfoot Mystery Win Second Consecutive Wellington Eventing Showcase

Boyd has done it again! He and the Blackfoot Mystery Syndicate’s OTTB Blackfoot Mystery, formerly owned by Kelly Prather, made the cross country course at the Asheville Regional Airport $75,000 Wellington Eventing Showcase look like a hunter round to score 30.6 and win the event – Boyd’s consecutive win (last year he rode Trading Aces). Boyd and the Blackfoot Mystery Syndicate members received a rather large prize money check, as well as a $10,000 bonus for winning consecutive events.

The syndicate members were also allowed to choose which charity will receive a $10,000 donation. They chose to donate to the Guillan-Barre Foundation because syndicate member Anne Laver has the rare genetic Guillan-Barre syndrome.

If money were seeds, the Tryon Equestrian Partners would be sowing an abundant garden of equestrian flowers. There seems to be no end to Mark Bellissimo’s desire to promote equestrian sport, and win or lose, Boyd is delighted to have been a part of this exciting weekend. Thanks to everyone who made this weekend possible.

$2500 goes to Sergio, Boyd’s hardworking groom.

Out of a very competitive field, the less experienced Welcome Shadow, owned by Craig and Gloria Callen of Millbrook, NY put in a solid performance to finish 13th out of 35 entries on a score of 41.1. It’s truly been a fantastic weekend in Wellington and a great way to kick off the 2016 eventing season. A huge thanks to all of the horse owners and to sponsors Ariat, Attwood Equestrian Surfaces, Charles Owen, Ecogold, Majyk Equipe, Middy N Me, Shires Equestrian, SmartPak and Stuebben North America.
