Focus on Fitness as Boyd Preps for Tokyo

As an Olympic athlete, Boyd takes his own fitness seriously. Especially since recovering from a few injuries and undergoing surgery last year for old injuries causing pain in his hips, he has made his own health and fitness a top priority. We all know that horse people tend to care for their horses first and themselves second, but over time Boyd has learned the importance of taking care of himself too. Here is his general routine: I work out every morning starting with 5-10 minutes on the Read more...

Peter Wylde’s Cross Country Adventures at Windurra USA

Olympic show jumper Peter Wylde was at our farm last week coaching me on Luke, Cue and Thomas, preparing for the next week’s challenges. Behind our show jumping ring is our big, 30-acre cross country field, and Peter is always joking with us that he’d like to have a crack at it. Last Thursday was the perfect day: I pulled out Nancy Hathaway’s Caterina, a beautiful French mare that is relatively green, with just one intermediate start under her belt. I decided to throw Peter in at the deep Read more...

Successful Weekend for Team Windurra!

First off, congratulations to Boyd and Luke 140 on winning the Jersey Fresh CCI4*-L, and huge congratulations to the Luke Syndicate, who support this phenomenal horse. He is a very exciting horse with a big future ahead of him, and clearly has a good foundation due to his first-class dressage training! The dressage horses also did great this weekend at the dressage show at Morven Park in Virginia. Pam Murphy knocked it out of the Park with her two horses Rosa and Rio. Rio won fourth Read more...

Cross Country at Jersey Fresh

We had a pretty good day at the Jersey Fresh International Three-Day Event. It all started out this morning with the CCI3L cross country. Wakanabi, or Monty, was first out and jumped the course great; unfortunately I missed the optimum time by three seconds, which isn’t much on a 8min 32sec course, but it was frustrating.  Fernhill Prezley and Donald (Penhill Celtic) were equally brilliant.  I was slightly speedier (by 3 seconds) and got the time on both of them. It was a good test Read more...

Boyd Martin: Jersey Fresh Dressage Recap

Photo: Amber Heintzberger It’s been two grueling days of dressage at the Jersey Fresh International Three-Day event. All of the horses put in very good tests: Luke and Ludwig were both awesome in the dressage. Monty, Prez and Donald were also very good on the flat. With these three younger horses, I didn’t quite nail the tests I hoped for and made a couple of frustrating mistakes. We are still in good placing with them, but all three of these horses are capable of dressage tests in the Read more...

First Show of the Year for Silva Martin Dressage: Dunmovin Dressage

We had a great first show this year at Dunmovin Dressage! I am so proud of Pam Murphyfor winning her fourth level test and being high score for fourth level on her wonderful Rio Royal! Christina Graham on her fabulous Laurencio also made me proud for riding a very nice PSG test and finishing in second place. On top of that she was FEI high point adult amateur. My assistant rider Mia Mata Blake rode a very nice third level test on Sarah Reese's and my mare Hannah Lu W. I feel so Read more...

Boyd Martin and On Cue Claim 2021 USEF National CCI5*-L Championship

With just one of his four entries still in the running and the top placing in his sights, the pressure was on Boyd to pilot On Cue around clear today at the Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event. But a single time fault would knock them out of second place, so Boyd also had to go for the time. Taking the risk of the inside line to the triple combination brought a rail down and cost him a top-three placing, but Boyd and On Cue still finished fourth overall and claimed the USEF National Read more...

On Cue Leads the U.S. Contingent at the 2021 #LRK3DE

Today was a seriously tough day of cross country that saw dreams dashed for numerous horse and rider combinations at the Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event, and Boyd was no exception. But there is still a bright light for Team Windurra: at the end of the day, On Cue rose above the rest to stand second overall, and in the top placing out of U.S. horses and riders in the CCI5*-L going into tomorrow's show jumping phase. Here is how cross country played out: Long Island T Ludwig started off Read more...

Silva’s Friday Dressage Wrap Up from #LRK3DE2021

Silva finished up her Kentucky coaching gig by helping Boyd pilot both of his remaining CCI5*-L horses into the top ten at the 2021 Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event Presented by Mars Equestrian. On Cue On Cue is probably the greenest one out of the five-star horses because she hasn’t done any of the big competitions yet. I thought she was awesome, I’ve never seen her this good! She’s a very good mover, so that helps, and she was very focused and kept her cool. She only had a couple Read more...
