Boyd and Bonito Second After Dressage at PFI CCI4*-S

Boyd piloted Stephen Blauner and Nancy Hathaway's Bonito to second place (28.2) after dressage in the CCI4*-S today at the Plantation Field International Three-Day Event in Unionville, PA. He said that the German-bred gelding has come back well from an injury about a year ago and feels strong and confident. "He's a wild bugger, so I rode him a couple times before the test to take the edge off," said Boyd. "He's mostly Thoroughbred and can get really fired up. It's a wonderful attribute Read more...

Plantation Field 2019 Preview

This weekend is a big one with the annual Plantation Field International Horse Trials, just down the road from our farm in Pennsylvania. It is always fun doing a big event close to home. Without much rain in the last weeks, I hear that the grounds keepers have done an amazing job spiking and Aerovating the turf on the cross country. I will take a close look at the course later in the week and determine how fast to run the horses on Sunday. Most of these horses had a good run at Great Read more...

Seneca Valley H.T.

I decided to enter a number of the horses into Seneca Valley Horse Trials this weekend. This is a local event that will be perfect to give the young horses a run. On Saturday I will take the Prelim and Training horses, and then Sunday I will send Mike down with the youngsters. All of the horses have been going very well this week, but I will most likely not go for the time on the Prelim horses unless the ground is good. Boyd Recounts AEC Championship Win with Long Island T

I can't begin to tell you all how happy I am with Ludwig! Everything went to absolute plan since backing off him and resting him up after his injury just before Kentucky this spring. There has been a lot of hard work and patience that all paid off last night! On Thursday Ludwig did a ripper of a dressage test. He was awesome. And the good news is, there is plenty of room for improvement going forward. He was a little bit curled in his three halts and I lost him in the walk, but his flying Read more...

Boyd and Long Island T Win $60,000 Adequan USEA Advanced Eventing Championship

With storms putting the competition on hold until late at night, Boyd and the Long Island T Syndicate's Long Island T hung in there to post a clear show jumping round and lay claim to the $60,000 Adequan USEA Advanced Eventing Championship. It's been a long road with "Ludwig" and Boyd is grateful  to the owners who have stuck by them through the ups and downs.  Clearly the future is looking bright. In spite of the late night, Boyd was up before the sun to head back to Pennsylvania and get back Read more...

Boyd’s Update from the 2019 American Eventing Championships

We are well into the week at the American Eventing Championships at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, and as of today Long Island T leads the Advanced Championship after cross country. A few of the divisions have already wrapped up, and Boyd took the time to discuss these horses' performances: Luke 140 Things keep progressing with Luke: the Open Intermediate Championship had 65 horses entered, and the course was by far our biggest test. Luke went like a champion in the dressage. I have Read more...

Video Highlights from 2019 Great Meadow International

Next Stop: 2019 American Eventing Championships

After a rough weekend at Great Meadow, I am fired up to turn things around at The American Eventing Championships in Lexington, Kentucky.  This should be one of the biggest and best events for the year.  It’s always a thrill competing at the Kentucky Horse Park, and riders from around the country come to the AEC's to compete at every level of the sport. Firstly, apologies to a few owners whom have not been correctly listed on the entry list with the horses.  We are working hard to fix this. On Read more...

Windurra Revving Up for Great Meadow International

This weekend we are shipping the horses down to The Plains, Virginia to take part in the MARS Great Meadow International.  This should be a good competition that will be a step up in class for a number of these ‘up and coming’ horses. Contaro: The first 2-star for Contaro.  I am looking forward to riding this guy at a competition for the first time. He should be very competitive. Maya:  The first 3-star for for Maya. She will be green in the dressage, but should jump around well. Read more...

Waredaca Horse Trials August 2019

This weekend is the Waredaca Horse Trials in Maryland.  It’s a great event and close to home, so it's easy to put some valuable mileage on the horses.  I plan to ride the Prelim horses on Saturday, whilst Mike is going to ride the two mares around their first Training Horse Trials. The horses all have been working very well in the lead up to this event. Read more...
