Cross Country Day at WEG 2018: Not All to Plan but Team USA Still in the Running

Heading out of the start box in 8th place individually, Boyd was hoping for a better result today at the WEG, but a run-out at fence 10B with Tsetserleg and the resulting time penalties knocked them down the leaderboard to 54th place individually.

The US Eventing Association posted a video from the Mix Zone following cross country:

Boyd Martin and Tsetserleg are the second pair home for 🇺🇸 #Tryon2018

Our friends at EventingNation.com summed up the US Team situation:

It was a day of mixed fortunes for Team USA here at Tryon2018 but we’ve still got a team score on the board. Lynn Symansky and Donner turned in a fault-free trip to move into 9th individually. Phillip Dutton and Z collected 6.4 time to sit just outside the top 20; Boyd Martin with Tsetserleg and Will Coleman with Tight Lines picked up one and two stops respectively. Our individual rider Lauren Kieffer fell from Vermiculus at 18 but horse and rider are OK.

Hurricane Florence is making her appearance as Tropical Storm Florence starting about now and intensifying through Sunday. The show jumping phase has been rescheduled for Monday at the Tryon International Equestrian Center. Concrete details on the time and place are still to be determined.
