Eventing Grand Prix in Aiken

I took Ray Price, Kyra and Tsetserleg out to the Liftmaster Eventing Grand Prix at Bruce’s Field in Aiken, SC yesterday. This is a ‘showcase’ event that had some of the best horses in the country competing.
My plan was to do the dressage and jumping on Ray Price  as a bit of exposure to top level competition and atmosphere and he did very, very well. He is still a little too green to win against this caliber of competition, but we are not far off. We were placed 10th after the dressage and jumping against a number of Olympic and WEG combinations and  I was very pleased with him. Ray will go to Red Hills Horse Trials in Tallahassee, Florida next week for his first complete run of the year.
Tsetserleg (Thomas), owned by Christine Turner, was second after dressage and but had a couple of rails down in show jumping. He will also just do  the”combined test” of dressage and show jumping – I had planned not to run Thomas cross country here, as he’s also heading to Red Hills next week. This was an excellent warm-up with lots of atmosphere before he  heads to the big event.
Chris Turner’s feisty chestnut mare Kyra will be my only horse to go around cross country today. It’s a beautiful course built by ETB Equine Construction consisting of Aiken landmarks, and in spite of heavy rains yesterday the sandy soil here should mean decent footing today.
EQTV is providing a live stream, and you can also watch the the recaps after the fact. Here’s more info:
