Getting Settled in for WEG at Tryon International Equestrian Center

Team USA is getting settled in at the Tryon International Equestrian Center for the 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games; there’s a lot of excitement as well as disappointment as Marilyn Little’s mare RF Scandalous came up a bit lame after our last gallop and has retired from the team. She’s a horse that was capable of an individual gold medal so that’s a big disappointment but Will Coleman is a four-star machine and a strong replacement in my opinion.

Thomas has arrived in great shape and we are just spending the next couple of days fine-tuning his dressage work and will probably give him a jump school tomorrow.  We will also have our first look at the cross-country course tomorrow.

I was very impressed when we arrived here at TIEC – there’s obviously been a lot of negative rumors flying around about the facilities not being ready to go, and while there’s still paint still drying and a few construction trucks still here the place looks fantastic and it could very well turn out to be one of the best championship events we’ve seen.

Everyone’s also getting pretty worked up over Hurricane Florence, but the event organizers have got no control over the weather – we might get a bit wet this weekend!

With only one horse to ride I’ve watched the reining riders train and the pure dressage riders work their horses and it’s been great fun watching some of the best in the world prepared for this championship.
