After a brilliant Rolex, I was eager to have a great finish to the year with Crackers at Pau. Deep down, I was still frustrated at getting so close the year before, so me, Crackers and his biggest fan Lucy (owner/breeder) headed to the south of France. We had a smart dressage and were in contention going into a tough cross country phase. We had an absolute round of a lifetime on a course that knocked out some of the best Horse/rider combinations. We went all of the direct routes and as we entered into the ring to do the last few fences and Cracker took a horrible step. I heard a crack and lept straight off. To my horror my old mate Crackers had broken his leg. It was horrible. Lucy and I had to make the heart breaking decision to put him to sleep. It was probably the lowest moment of my Eventing carrier….
