Shamwari 2018 – Luhmuhlen

I had spent a long time getting the 16 year old Shmawari primed for Luhmelen.  I knew going into the event that we were getting towards the end of Shammie’s carrier, so I wanted to go out on a high. We produced our best ever dressage test, leading the field after the first days tests. The cross country was as tough as ever, so I really went for it. We were one of the only horses to go under the time. I could not believe it, we were winning the event going into the showjumping.  Unfortunately, Shammie pulled up very lame after the cross country in his left hind leg. We got him checked over, and he had strained his tendon around his hock. He was not good enough to jump the next day. The result really stung, as we were so close to a win that this horse deserved.  I decided to retire him from the top of the sport.  What a horse!
