Trading Aces was purchased soon after he won the Fair Hill CCI ** in 2011 by the Trading Aces Syndicate. The syndicate was made up of a group of current owners and supporters of some of Boyd’s other horses.
Oscar, as he is known around the barn (due to the fact that he is grouchy at dinner time) is everything you dream of in an upper level event horse: Movement for the dressage, power in the jumping, and a gallop that eats up the ground. He moved up successfully to the 3* level in 2012 and he has become a world class competitor with both Boyd and Phillip Dutton in the irons.
Oscar has had a strong finish to 2013 with a 6th place finish in the Advanced at Pine Top. They then started out 2014 with an amazing 1st place finish in the CIC3* at Red Hills before Boyd’s unfortunate leg injury. Boyd and Oscar’s syndication owners made the decision to keep Oscar in competiton with Phillip, and as a result of this partnership Oscar continued to progress, winning the Fork 3* before going on to a remarkable 8th place finish at Rolex! With Phillip’s Olympic mount, Mr. Medicott coming home with an injury from Rolex, the US Team and Oscar’s owners kept Phillip in the irons for the 2014 WEG in Normandy, France.
Boyd took over the reigns again in 2014 to have a successful 4th place finish in our hometown event at Plantation Field International 3*!
