Meet our Goresbridge Go For Gold Horses

Last week I had a great couple of days in Ireland with longtime supporter Steve Blauner and his brother Peter, who’s one of the top veterinarians in Unionville, PA. We had a great time looking through all the horses at the Goresbridge Go for Gold sale. After a couple of days of looking very closely at all of the horses in the auction, we ended up rolling the dice on a couple of unbroken three-year-olds.

Bay

Mister Mitchell

Mister Mitchell is very closely related to Trading Aces. He’s a beautiful mover and free jumped fantastic, and has a wonderful Irish pedigree. The major difference is Mitchell is sired by a pure Thoroughbred, which hopefully should give him a little more of the stamina that Oscar lacked. Steve purchased this horse and I’ll get him started, then it’s up to Steve to decide his future later.

Gray

Carlsberg

The second horse we ended up with is a good-looking gray horse who happened to be unnamed. Since purchasing him, we decided to call him “Carlsberg”, or Carl for short, as I will have to admit that the Carlsberg beer on offer at the auction helped encourage our bidding! He’s a full brother to Oliver Townend’s horse event horse “Perusing”. Carl has a pedigree of about 68% TB with sires like Cruising and Clover Hill in his family tree. Steve and I purchased this horse together, half and half, and I’m looking forward to getting his training started.

It will be a long road to produce these horses but I feel like they have so much quality in their movement and jump, and the pedigrees to back it up, that in time they could be really great event horses.

Lorry

We received these photos yesterday of them leaving Ireland for Newark Airport. Thanks to Stephen and Peter for a wonderful couple of days in Ireland. I can’t say how excited I am to have these couple of young horses in my string.
