Pancho Villa Places 3rd at Jersey Fresh CCI3*

We’ve wrapped up another successful weekend at the Jersey Fresh International three-day event. I was a bit stiff and sore at the trot-up this morning after falling off Eddie on cross-country yesterday, but both Pancho and Shadow trotted up brilliantly. They’re in perfect condition in their health and fitness. We did the normal icing and poulticing last night and they bounced back in great form for show jumping today.

I was lucky that Silvio warmed me up on both horses for the jumping. Gloria Callen’s Welcome Shadow jumped a stellar round to finish on her dressage score. She is now 3* qualified, which is our goal for next year. It was a little bit frustrating that we didn’t put in our best dressage test this weekend, but we’ll be working on that after she has a short rest break.

The Pancho Villa Syndicate’s Pancho Villa put in a great round today to finish in 3rd place; unfortunately we just nicked the second vertical in the combination and picked up an uncharacteristic rail, but I’m thrilled with his performance in all three phases this weekend and I think he really showed the selectors that they should look carefully at him in consideration for the Pan-Am Games. I think of all my horses at the moment he’s best suited to the Pan-Ams. He’s scored in the 30’s in a 2-star test, he’s in great form at the moment having finished second in the advanced at The Fork, second in CIC*** at Fair Hill and now 3rd in the CCI*** at Jersey. These are all at faster speeds than what’s needed at the Pan-Ams so I think he’d be a good solid choice for the team.

Silva was here cheering us on today and enjoyed the day at the event. This might be the last year I’m off the hook on mother’s day!

We’ve got all the young horses doing some horse trials the next couple weekends and then Cortez and Eddie will head to Canada to do battle in the CCI3* at Bromont.
