RK3DE 2017: Competition Recap, Sponsor Signings, Course Walks & Fans Galore!

Each year the RK3DE is non-stop action for Boyd & Silva, his horses and the entire team that works so hard to choreograph the lead up and weekend of competition in Kentucky.  It is no simple feat to get 2 horses prepped for the biggest 4* in this country, and Boyd recognizes that he wouldn’t be able to do it without the entire team at Windurra USA.

This year was Maddie Parisan’s and Emma O’Lone’s first trip to Rolex with Boyd and we were so proud of how they quickly stepped up to the plate.  Grooming at Rolex is a daunting challenge and both these girls rose to the occasion.

For those who haven’t attended Rolex, the best visual would be a cross breed between the Firefly Music Festival, an Equestrian Supermall and the X Games!  Rolex is a virtual overindulgence for every Eventing and equestrian enthusiast, and there’s no lack of entertainment, shopping, partying and hard core competition.  It is a remarkable experience and an annual road-trip worth taking.

Boyd is kept on his toes all weekend in between ride times with sponsor appearances and the annual Smartpak Course Walk, which was lead this year with Boyd’s best mate, Ryan Wood.   As always, Rolex offers the opportunity for Boyd to give back to his owners, sponsors, fans and supporters all within one intense and action packed weekend.  The course walk and the signings were a mob scene of enthusiastic fans, and we thank each and every one of you for supporting our amazing sport!

Smartpak Course Walk

Each year Rolex always offers a slightly different experience for our entire team, due to the changing roster of horses entered and owners who are in attendance.  Each year we walk away with a unique set of memories, reflecting upon the horses’ performances and all the owner and sponsor activities that fill our plates.

This year we celebrated a stellar performance by Crackers, and the heartbreak of what could have been a place in the victory gallop with Eddie had he not slipped at the Normandy Bank.  After a personal best performance in dressage, the Eagle was cranking around the XC with ease when one unfortunate step resulted in the fall.  Boyd was mostly frustrated for his owners who have been so incredibly supportive of his career with this special horse, but we know they’ll be back to hunt down another 4* in the near future.

Check out this great video of Eddie on XC.

Once again we are truly appreciative of all the support we receive each year from our owners, staff and fans who make the #RK3DE an unforgettable experience.  Thank you to Lucy Boynton Lie, Denise Lahey and Pierre Colin, the Wintersteens for standing behind Boyd with your talented horses……and to our sponsors Smartpak, Ariat, Purina, Shires, Charles Owen, Majyk Equipe, Stubben, Ecogold, Horizon Structures and Middy N Me who are also instrumental in getting us to the great state of Kentucky!

Please visit our FB page for a multitude of photos, video and media coverage from the RK3DE!

Till next year…………thank you from everyone at Windurra USA!
