Show Jumping at Bruce’s Field and On the Road to Florida

A few of the upper level horses had a show jumping outing at Bruce’s Field where Tsetserleg and On Cue competed in the 1.20 jumpers and Ludwig did the 1.30m “Mini Prix”. This was a good opportunity some extra mileage in the show jumping arena, with a bit of atmosphere for good measure (and prize money!). We are also looking forward to the $50,000 Grand Prix Eventing Invitational at Bruce’s Field on March 1st and 2nd.

But first, we are en route to sunny Florida and ready to tackle this weekend’s Wellington Eventing Showcase. With $50k in prize money on the line in Wellington (and a winning streak to maintain), it’s time to roll the sleeves up and get down to business!  Ludwig has been working very well in the lead up to this event. I have given him two quicker gallops over the last few weeks and he is feeling fit. Last Sunday he jumped very well around a 1.30m track in Aiken.  He feels confident and keen over the show jumps and the cross country fences and we have him as prepared as he can be at this time of the year.
I plan to give him some nice soft flat work this afternoon with plenty of stretching work. Today’s goals will be just to keep him fresh and relaxed and make sure he feels comfortable.  Tomorrow, I plan to pop him over some smaller jumps and work on his ride-ability. Thursday and Friday I will start focusing in on preparing him for a stellar dressage test.
