Silva’s Trip South: Ten Days in Aiken

The boys and I are just back from ten days in Aiken where we really enjoyed some time with Boyd, and I was able to compete in a couple of shows. We took our babysitter Susannah and her son Bobby, and I had three horses, so the truck was full and the trailer was nearly full for our journey south.

It was fun to see Boyd, obviously since the boys and I hadn’t seen him for awhile! We got there Friday and I showed that Sunday in the Grand Prix at Stable View. Rosa was really good and it was fun, she held up well and finished second.  I don’t work her hard – she doesn’t need to work too much, she knows all the movements. It was good to have her back in action.

I also rode some of Boyd’s event horses that weekend since Boyd was at Wellington at the Eventing Showcase. Nancy Hathaway’s a huge supporter of ours and it’s fun to ride her horses.

The following weekend at Bruce’s Field I rode a few of Boyd’s other horses: Bonito, On Cue and Luke, and they were great. All of them need to do flying changes, and they all did good changes – we did dressage boot camp this week!

I also taught a lot of lessons and of course left time for Boyd’s training – he gets very needy when I’m around!  The boys also loved to see Boyd and we made sure to find time for lots of fun things to do as a family.  Stable View is an awesome playground! Boyd’s coming home in three weeks, so I won’t go back to Aiken this spring, but I’ll be going to Tryon in April to show at the CDI.

In addition to Rosa I took Belgrano Gold, owned by Joan Owen, who is from Aiken.  it’s fun to see her and she had a great time seeing him – he’s very talented. He won the I-1 with 71% . We’ve worked together for a year now and it’s really coming together. He won at Devon last fall, but that was two levels below; he’s come up the levels quickly and I’m very excited about him. I think I’m going to the CDI at Tryon in April with him and I’m excited for that –  he’s going really well.

The third horse that I took down there with me is a Danish mare named Fie owned by Jean Good. She’s been training with me this winter and was in Florida while I was in Aiken so she asked me to bring the mare along. I didn’t show her the first weekend since I don’t know her that well, but she won the PSG at Bruce’s Field last weekend. She’s a fabulous, quality horse and it’s fun to work with her.

Belgrano won again at Bruce’s Field, and I can honestly say that any mistakes were totally mine – he was foot perfect. Rosa also won the Grand Prix at Bruce’s Field and once again felt really good.

Now we’re back in Pennsylvania and back to the usual routine. Many thanks to Susannah for joining our traveling circus, and to all of the owners and sponsors who helped make this trip possible. It was great to get back to beautiful Stable View and get to a could of shows too!
