Stable View Oktoberfest

Last year at Stable View

There’s no rest for the wicked as the grueling summer of 3-day eventing continues: on Friday starts a huge competition at Stable View Farm in Aiken, the Oktoberfest Horse Trials. This is the first time they are putting on the international, FEI classes. Hats off to the organizers for putting up $80,000 in prize money.

I have the mighty Steady Eddie and spicy Kyra entered in the 3*; in the Advanced I have a couple of slightly greener horses, On Cue and Cortez and in the 1*, doing his first FEI event, I have an exciting young American Thoroughbred called Ringo Starr.

It’s the first time I’ve been to Stable View since we left in March after spending our winter there, and I understand the construction of the pavilion has been completed which should ensure they have the premier spectator vantage point of any competition in the world. Capt Mark Phillips has also opened up a whole new section of country which should make the course more flowing than in past years.

Stable View is a special place for me: it’s provided a wonderful training facility for Silva and I over the past few winters and I don’t think I’ve been to a farm with more amazing facilities. The barn, rings and cross country course are first-class and I’m looking forward to going down there when it’s truly warm, as it can be a bit chilly in the mornings when we’re there in winter!

I will be leading a cross country course walk tomorrow, Friday at 10:30am for a suggested donation of $10/person to benefit the Cumbee Center to Assist Abused Persons.
