Eddie PlantationEddie is a magnificent cross of the best New Zealand, Australian and American Thoroughbred racing and jumping lines that money can buy. He was born in New Zealand, fathered by the mighty Jet Bull who is sired by Marscay, who has had many grand prix show jumpers and Eventers in Australia. On the mother side of Jet Bull is Vain, who is the grand father of Olympic Eventing champion Ready Teddy with Blyth Tait. On Eddies mother side is galloping champions Northern Dancer, Secretariat, Bold Lad and Danzig.

Eddie had a hard start to life, racing in outback Australia in 36 races. He was mostly racing on country tracks having medium success. On two occasions Eddie raced on successive days, racing on a Saturday, and then backing up to race the next day on Sunday….I figured he was a tough horse.

I spotted him out at a friends farm near Townsville Queensland after he had retired from racing. He was skin and bones, shoeless…….but had that look about him. I was only in flip-flops and shorts, so when I tried him I was jumping him over logs in shorts and no shoes. I had to have him!

I left him with my good mate Kevin McNab who spent a month feeding him until Eddie flew straight into PA to a bitter winter in Feb 2010.

Video of Eddie’s first jump school.
I love this horse, he is a mover in the dressage, has a super jump and just a phenomenal jump. George and Gretchen Wintersteen have joined the journey in becoming part owners. Gretchen is a first flight foxhunter with the notorious Cheshire Foxhunt, while George is a retired race car driver. They are both lovers of horse sports, owning stakes winning steeple chase horses in the past.

The goal is to continue training this future champion slowly and surely. He had his first start in the Beginner Novice in May 2010 for 3rd place.

We’re also going to keep a chronicled slideshow of Eddie’s progression. Take a look at the following slideshow that shows Eddie’s first few days here in the states…..arriving in the middle of an epic snow storm. He was a skinny guy, but has settled in well & is proving to be a true talent!
