Windurra Eventing Ride Times for Plantation Field

This weekend I am back in action at the Plantation Field International Three-Day Event. After 41 years I have decided to change my my approach and to take it slow this weekend. It has been eight weeks since my last surgery, and I plan to ride just two horses in the three-star. Long Island T (Ludwig) and On Cue should be the perfect duo to give me a nice, easy stroll around the beautiful cross-country course built by www.etbjump.com at Plantation Field. Mike has a rock star group of horses this Read more...

Otis Barbotiere to Semi-Retire at Windurra USA

Earlier this year, Tricia Boone called me and said that my 2012 Olympic partner Otis Barbotiere wasn’t doing too much at his new home in Kentucky.  He had a great career in the jumpers with both Catie and Ali Boone, but was ready for retirement. Tricia said that she was looking for a home for the old boy, and I jumped at the chance to take him back and give him a home at Windurra. When he arrived at the farm, I must say that he looked amazing. The Boone family had Otis in magnificent condition. Read more...

Windurra Eventers Migrating North

The Windurra Eventing crew is back home in Pennsylvania and happy to dig in to work here on the farm. In hindsight we were very lucky that we decided to enter so many horses at the Pine Top Spring Horse Trials in Georgia last weekend. Pine Top is one of my favorite events, it’s got a beautiful cross country course: good footing, open, galloping courses and a well-designed track. Between Mike, me and a large portion of our staff we ran most of  the horses our barn. A few of the mature horses Read more...

Silva’s Trip South: Ten Days in Aiken

The boys and I are just back from ten days in Aiken where we really enjoyed some time with Boyd, and I was able to compete in a couple of shows. We took our babysitter Susannah and her son Bobby, and I had three horses, so the truck was full and the trailer was nearly full for our journey south. It was fun to see Boyd, obviously since the boys and I hadn’t seen him for awhile! We got there Friday and I showed that Sunday in the Grand Prix at Stable View. Rosa was really good and it was fun, Read more...

Boyd in Physical Therapy After Surgery

Two weeks ago, after I'd been hobbling around like a 90-year-old man, my doctors finally figured out that I had a torn adductor muscle in my left leg. It had completely torn away from the bone, and above that was a partial tear, and there was another tear on the right leg. Dr. Meyers in Philadelphia cut me open and stitched me back together again. On the bright side it’s the perfect time of year for me to be recovering and I’ve only missed a couple of events. Each day I go in for two hours Read more...

XC and Gallop Track Open Till Dec 1st!

Today is cold and blustery - but the forecast for the next several weeks is favorable, and the footing on the XC course is in tip top shape!  Therefor, Boyd has decided to keep the course open throughout the month of November, so make plans to keep your horses in training before you head south (or hunker down in an indoor for the winter). In December we'll be paying attention to repairs on our jumps, and our good friend Jamie Hicks will be back to aerate and spread the mushroom soil so the Read more...
