Boyd has a couple more days in Japan teaching riders how to retrain ex-racehorses before he heads to Australia to visit family. Here are a few photos, with Mt. Fuji making an impressive backdrop. Read more...

Boyd in Physical Therapy After Surgery

Two weeks ago, after I'd been hobbling around like a 90-year-old man, my doctors finally figured out that I had a torn adductor muscle in my left leg. It had completely torn away from the bone, and above that was a partial tear, and there was another tear on the right leg. Dr. Meyers in Philadelphia cut me open and stitched me back together again. On the bright side it’s the perfect time of year for me to be recovering and I’ve only missed a couple of events. Each day I go in for two hours Read more...

Luke 140 Schooling Flying Changes

https://youtu.be/ZcDesUg9TpI I am fortunate that my wife Silva is willing to spend time schooling the event horses and fine tuning their dressage skills. At the moment Silva is working with Luke 140, a horse we syndicated earlier this year. Silva’s main goal has been teaching Luke the flying changes. Next year Luke will need to do flying changes in his dressage tests at the 4-Star level. When we purchased him earlier this year, he had not been taught them yet, but sometimes this is better because Read more...

Preview of Windurra Horses at 2019 Jersey Fresh International Three-Day Event

This week is the Jersey Fresh International Three-Day Event at the Horse Park of New Jersey in Allentown. I have brought up a group of rock star upper level horses to contest this event. We arrived yesterday  and the courses look good. Conditions should be good, with a good amount of rain last night and cool and cloudy weather predicted for Saturday's cross country. My plan for the horses: Barry:  feeling really good in his training and should do well in the dressage. I will give Read more...

Red Hills Video

We didn’t manage to catch all the horses on video, but here’s a little sampling from show jumping at Red Hills on Sunday:

Boyd Has the Advanced Locked Down After Dressage at Red Hills

Phillip Schooling Boyd’s Horses at New Stable View XC Course

https://youtu.be/DBi3bho7G2M My cross country coach Phillip Dutton took Ray Price and Long Island T out for a school at the new Boyd Martin/ETB Equine Construction Schooling Cross Country Course at Stable View yesterday, and it was awesome. Phillip really honed in on their rideability and practiced some of the jumping and turning exercises that these horses will encounter at the advanced level of competition. The jumped a lot of corners, narrows and coffins, and both horses finished the session Read more...

Retraining Racehorses in Japan with Boyd Martin: First Clinic (Gotemba)

We’ve had a brilliant start to the retired racehorse clinic in Japan, hosted by the National Riding Club Association of Japan (NRCAJ), the Japanese Racing Association (JRA) and Godolphin. The first three days were spent at Gotemba in a beautiful setting at an Equestrian Center right in the shadow of Mount Fuji. We had four groups of riders each day. The first group was very green and the second and third had been jumping for a year or so. The fourth group was quite advanced, jumping about Read more...

Starting the Young Horses Right

https://youtu.be/oIq7bRNjrTg By the first of November all of the major events are done and dusted and I give the bulk of the upper level horses a good month’s vacation. This is a well-deserved rest from the hard, focused training and relentless competition schedule that starts in February. This also means a little less work at the farm since the upper level horses are so time-consuming, so we also use this time to give our staff a holiday intermittently This is also a good time to break in Read more...
