The last two weeks have been fantastic here in Germany as the US Eventing Team has undergone a training camp during Pre-Export Quarantine at the grounds where the CHIO Aachen is held each year. There aren’t many times in my life I can completely focus on a couple of horses and get dialed in on every aspect of their training performance. The time in Aachen has been invaluable for really fine tuning things with both Tsetserleg TSF and On Cue, who are both owned by the fabulous Turner family.

Earlier this year, Tricia Boone called me and said that my 2012 Olympic partner Otis Barbotiere wasn’t doing too much at his new home in Kentucky. He had a great career in the jumpers with both Catie and Ali Boone, but was ready for retirement. Tricia said that she was looking for a home for the old boy, and I jumped at the chance to take him back and give him a home at Windurra.

My good mate Shamwari is feeling better and better since he was injured at the Luhmuehlen CCI4* in Germany in June, when his hind tendon slipped off his hock just meters before the finish of of the 4-Star cross country course.
For the first three months after Luhmuehlen he was pretty sore, so we had him on stall rest and we were hand grazing him a couple of times a day. After Great Meadow I had a long drive home after a disappointing cross country round with a glance-off at the double corner on Blackfoot Mystery. When something doesn’t go to plan, you ask yourself a million questions like, ‘did he misread the fence?’, ‘did I ride incorrectly?’ or ‘have I focused too much on dressage and show jumping and forgot about the all important cross country?’. Thoughts on Olympic Selection

Boyd is back in the USA and has had a couple of days to let it sink in that he's heading to Rio this summer. Here are his thoughts:

We are thrilled to announce that Boyd and the Blackfoot Mystery Syndicate's Blackfoot Mystery have been selected for the US Olympic Team competing in Rio this summer. It's been an incredible journey so far and Boyd is looking forward to the opportunity to represent Team USA alongside Phillip Dutton, Lauren Kieffer and Clark Montgomery.
Gloria Callen's talented mare Welcome Shadow has been selected as a reserve horse for Boyd.
