Boyd Martin: Reflections on Team USA Training Camp in Aachen

The last two weeks have been fantastic here in Germany as the US Eventing Team has undergone a training camp during Pre-Export Quarantine at the grounds where the CHIO Aachen is held each year. There aren’t many times in my life I can completely focus on a couple of horses and get dialed in on every aspect of their training performance. The time in Aachen has been invaluable for really fine tuning things with both Tsetserleg TSF and On Cue, who are both owned by the fabulous Turner family. I Read more...

Boyd’s Update from Aachen

Training in Aachen is going well so far. Both of Chris and Tommie Turner's horses, Thomas and Cue, have arrived in good form after traveling well from the States. The first couple of days here in Germany, I just did some light flat work with team coach Erik Duvander helping me. As the horses were still adjusting after travel, we worked on very simple stretching and suppling work. Yesterday the Bride, Silva Martin, arrived and we started working on the dressage test movements. Both horses are Read more...

2021 US Olympic Team Mandatory Outing

We just finished up a great couple of days at Great Meadow in The Plains, Virginia for the US Eventing Team's mandatory outing. The Great Meadow Foundation were generous enough to put on a spectacular event for the 12 horses in training towards the Olympic Games. This was a perfect time to give them a practice run as the Olympics will be run in less than a month. I took Tsetserleg TSF and On Cue, both owned by the Turner Family, to this event. My game plan was to give them a nice, solid run Read more...

Reflections on the 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games in Tryon

First and foremost, it’s an honor and privilege to represent the USA at an international championship; like every occasion, I can honestly say I’ve tried as hard as I possibly could to give my best at this year’s WEG. I believe the selectors picked the right five horses and riders, and you can overanalyze this event but at the end of the day, anything that could have gone wrong went wrong for Team USA. All five of us were in form and had good, sound horses that were performing well, but Read more...

Cross Country Day at WEG 2018: Not All to Plan but Team USA Still in the Running

Heading out of the start box in 8th place individually, Boyd was hoping for a better result today at the WEG, but a run-out at fence 10B with Tsetserleg and the resulting time penalties knocked them down the leaderboard to 54th place individually. The US Eventing Association posted a video from the Mix Zone following cross country: https://www.facebook.com/USEventing/videos/434637113606810/ Our friends at EventingNation.com summed up the US Team situation: It was a day Read more...

Live From Great Meadow!

We are braving the heat down in Middleburg and getting our first glimpse of the 2016 US Olympic Eventing Team!  In addition to this weekend being the mandatory outing for our event team, it is also the first Nations Cup held here in the USA.  Last night we kicked off the evening with a press conference introducing the team and their plans for this weekend's event and their training program leading up to their departure for Rio. Take a glimpse of the video clip from the rider interviews from Read more...

Reflecting on the Pan Am Games

Now that the Pan Am Games is finally behind us it’s a great opportunity to look back and be proud of our fantastic team results. I’ve been on a number of teams now and without question this was the best organized, most well-oiled machine I’ve been involved in. David O’Connor did a fantastic job as coach. Farrier Steve Teichman, Vet Susan Young and Joanie Morris, the manager, did a superb job coordinating the group. Next I have to take my Read more...
