Starting the Young Horses Right

https://youtu.be/oIq7bRNjrTg By the first of November all of the major events are done and dusted and I give the bulk of the upper level horses a good month’s vacation. This is a well-deserved rest from the hard, focused training and relentless competition schedule that starts in February. This also means a little less work at the farm since the upper level horses are so time-consuming, so we also use this time to give our staff a holiday intermittently This is also a good time to break in Read more...

November 2018 Shamwari Update

My good mate Shamwari is feeling better and better since he was injured at the  Luhmuehlen CCI4* in Germany in June, when his hind tendon slipped off his hock just meters before the finish of of the 4-Star cross country course. For the first three months after Luhmuehlen he was pretty sore, so we had him on stall rest and we were hand grazing him a couple of times a day. After he got more comfortable we put him out in a round pen for a few hours a day, so he could enjoy some sunlight and controlled Read more...

Swan Lake Jumper Show

Yesterday I went to the Swan Lake jumper show in Western Pennsylvania with Santos, Eddie, Shamwari and Kyra and competed the horses in the 1.20m and the 1.30m jumpers. Santos - I thought he jumped really well in the 1.20. I made a mistake with my position coming out of the last combination and we had the back rail down because I sat up too early. This phase is Santos weaker phase, and I believe we are making good progress.  I feel like he is getting stronger and more careful; the Bromont Three-Day Read more...

Boyd Schooling in his new Airowear Cross Country Vest

Boyd was excited to receive his new Airowear cross-country body protector today, and wasted no time in taking it for a test ride in the ring at Windurra. Danielle Santos of Charles Owen explained the key differences that set the next generation of Airowear body protection apart: “The biggest difference is that it is detachable: the body protector and air jacket are anchored together by the interior front zip. The foundation body protector is our AirMesh2 –  a black mesh body protector, Read more...

2018 Carolina International

After three fantastic months in the Southern states it’s good to be finally back in my own bed, snuggling up to my cats Manny and Kostya. We arrived last night and while it's great to be home, this winter at Stable View was one of the best years we have spent in Aiken! Over the weekend we competed at the Carolina International. I only had two horses competing in the advanced, Long Island T and Ray Price, and I had Cortez in the one-star; I’ve only been on Cortez a couple weeks Read more...

2018 Carolina International Three-Day Event Underway

We have arrived at the Carolina International Three-Day Event in Southern Pines, NC in good order. Without question this is one of the great events of the winter circuit. I have a small group of horses entered which should make for quite a relaxing weekend. I have brought some of the Kentucky horses along for the trip to train, and to stop me getting too bored! We are slowly migrating north back to Pennsylvania.  Looking at the weather report this morning, I am glad I chose to stop Read more...

Update from Silva: Three Shows in Aiken

I have some catching up to do on the blog, so I will talk about three shows here, beginning with Dressage at the Park, held at Bruce’s Field here in Aiken. I’m so excited that I have two newly minted FEI horses, Hannah Lu W, owned by Joan Fenton White and Sara Reese, and my own Jada W. Both of these homebred mares just recently moved up to the FEI levels, competing in the PSG here in Aiken, South Carolina. Jada won the PSG; Hannah was a little hot in the canter and made some green Read more...
