Windurra Event Horses Gearing Up for Spring Four-Star Events with The Fork

We are getting down to the business end of the spring eventing season, with The Fork Horse Trials and CIC taking place this week in Norwood, NC. I am proud to say that the five horses in my string who are four-star hopefuls are all looking in good shape. This will be the final outing for the team before taking them on to Rolex Kentucky and Badminton (England) 4* and I am looking for a good run on all five horses this weekend.
The Fork will act as a bit of a dress rehearsal for the respective “big one” that is coming up next for each horse. Therefore the cross country will act as a good final fitness run and similar to the Carolina International two weeks ago in Southern Pines, and while I will look to be competitive at the Fork, I probably will not go for broke to win this one.  I did not bring any other horses to North Carolina, outside this group of 4-star hopefuls, so I can give them my full attention.
At the moment, the plan is for Shamwari, Steady Eddie and Blackfoot Mystery (Red) to run at Rolex, and Master Frisky (Mikey) and Crackerjack (Crackers) to aim for Badminton the following week.
The Fork Plan:
Blackfoot Mystery: I have been working hard the last two weeks on Red’s show jumping and I think I have him firing. I’m also looking forward to nailing both the flying changes in the dressage. His cross-country should be fine.
Master Frisky: My goal is to get the walk more relaxed in the dressage test, keep all four shoes on during cross-country, and post another clear round show jumping.
Steady Eddie:  Eddie’s focus in relaxation in the dressage, and I’d like to have him better in the show jumping, especially through the triple. He seems to be in good form and I’d like to get in a good confident cross country round to set him up for Rolex.
Shamwari: I have decided to run Shammie in the 2-star to avoid excessive trauma on the old boy. He felt awesome at Carolina and pulled up sound. His run around the Fork is strictly a fitness outing, but he should be winning after the dressage and showjumping.
Crackerjack:  The goal here is to continue our good form.  No bucking in the left flying lead change please, Crackers!  I will go with the double bridle again for the dressage.  He seems well and ready for the weekend.
I gave all of the boys a good jump and gallop yesterday and they all felt super and galloped well. The footing was perfect.
